Weissman's Dancewear Solutions
This Summer (2023), I had the opportunity to be a technical design intern at Weissman in St. Louis, Missouri. I was an intern for the studio team, where I worked on dancewear. The day-to-day procedures included assisting with prototype (physical and 3D), fit, pre-production, and top-of-production sample fittings, creating initial development for new styles, communicating with vendors, and engaging cross-functionally with design, pattern-making, and sourcing departments. I also had the opportunity to assist the other genre teams (Jazz-Hop and Ballyrical) with construction callouts, fittings, and initial style specifications & development.
Another main aspect of this internship is the Intern Project. The interns follow the procedures and processes of the industry, in a faster-paced way to create our own products and campaigns. I was assigned to the Ballet team and was handed over two designs. I then developed the styles by creating construction callouts, inputting the trim bill of materials, making initial development with pattern-making instructions, and calculating specific points of measurement. Once the styles were back from the pattern-making intern, I assembled 3D renders of the garments in CLO3D and sent the styles for costing from vendors. I facilitated a fitting of the garments with the designer and provided edits for the patternmaker. After pattern revisions, I requested for physical prototypes of the garments from the in-house sample production team. I performed fittings with design and requested alterations. Once the alterations were complete, the styles were approved to prototype review. After the prototype review, the styles are passed back to technical design to make alterations for the survey samples and marketing photoshoots.
